Live 1984 |
 | | Description: | Absent Lovers by King Crimson, released 8 April 2022.
This version of Absent Lovers comes as a 2xCD in a(n) Digipak packaging. - LIVE 1984Originally recorded for radio broadcast and subsequently mixed in 1998 from the original multi track master tapes, Absent Lovers presents one of the 1980s incarnation of King Crimson recorded live at the peak of it's powers. The 1980s incarnation of King Crimson made it's debut on April 30th 1981 (recording recently issued as part of the 2cd collectable King Crimson vol. 2). Their final concert was on July 11th 1984, the second of two dates at the Spectrum, Montreal. Absent Lovers is a recording of that final date. It's a recording of an exuberant, confident band with a wealth of material to offer. Drawn from the three studio albums: Discipline (1981), Beat (1982), & Three of a Perfect Pair (1984), with Red & Larks' Tongues in Aspic II - pieces originally recorded by 70s band lineups and routinely performed in the 80s band concerts - also included."Absent Lovers (1984)" on CD is an essential live document by progressive rock innovators King Crimson, capturing the band's legendary performances at Montreal's Le Spectrum in July 1984. This release presents King Crimson at the peak of their 1980s incarnation, featuring complex interlocking guitar lines, polyrhythmic grooves and a unique fusion of rock, art-pop and experimental textures. The concert's atmosphere is intense and focused, with the band delivering meticulously arranged pieces alongside freer, more exploratory moments that showcase both technical mastery and emotional depth. Carefully mixed and mastered from the original recordings, the CD offers a powerful, detailed sound image that brings out the nuances of each instrument and gives listeners the feeling of standing directly in front of the stage. Extensive liner notes and the historical context of these final shows of the 1980s era make this edition particularly attractive for collectors and newcomers alike.
King Crimson, formed in the late 1960s around guitarist and composer Robert Fripp, are considered one of the most influential bands in progressive rock. Their groundbreaking debut "In the Court of the Crimson King" set new standards for ambitious rock music, and over the decades the band repeatedly reinvented itself with changing line-ups and bold stylistic shifts. Known for albums such as "Red", "Discipline" and "Larks' Tongues in Aspic", King Crimson have shaped generations of musicians with their mix of complexity, improvisation and sonic experimentation. Their live reputation is legendary: no two concerts are the same, and "Absent Lovers (1984)" documents a particularly dynamic and creative phase in their history, in which the band combined razor-sharp discipline with spontaneous risk-taking on stage.
The CD is released by DGM (Discipline Global Mobile), a label closely associated with Robert Fripp and King Crimson that is dedicated to artist-friendly, ethically oriented music production. DGM is known for high-quality releases, carefully researched archival editions and respectful handling of musicians' work and rights. With a strong focus on sound quality, detailed documentation and long-term catalog care, DGM has built a reputation among fans of progressive and experimental music as a trusted source for definitive editions and previously unheard concert recordings. "Absent Lovers (1984)" fits perfectly into this philosophy: a carefully curated live album that not only preserves an important moment in King Crimson's history, but also presents it in a form that does justice to both the band and the audience. | | | No. of tracks: |
